A low-pass filter is a frequency spectrum limiting filter, i.e. frequencies up to a certain peak are reproduced, frequencies beyond this point are removed. A low-pass filter is open at the bottom. It is used, for example, to set up midrange & bass-midrange speakers as well as subwoofers. This allows all high frequencies that are outside the imaging capability of the driver to be removed.
